Millefiori eyes from Polymer Clay

This gallery contains 1 photo.

Trying my hand at millefiori eyes today. Seems pretty easy. I want to try using these eyes instead of glass or bead eyes, or even painted eyes.

Drawing and Painting Apps

Drawing Pad is a simple productivity app I frequently use to work up my initial ideas on a doll. I often start will an actual pencil or pen drawing, photograph it with my phone or iPad, and then pull it up on the app to manipulate it. Saving every layer helps if I need to go back and set up parallel directions for the doll…different clothing, hair, etc. for the collector commissioning the doll.
I am not expert with the program yet, but I learn something new about the functionality every day. It helps clarify direction for both of us.
This is not a detail step but a brainstorming step once I have some idea who this doll is going to be for or of.

Molly and Co.

Molly and Co.

Molly and Co.

I received a text to start this commission and it evolved from there. You’ll see, these tiny dolls now have painted faces and will soon have beautiful hair and dresses. The rings around their waists are from a wild necklace I picked up at the thrift store in Fairfield on Texas St.

On changing directions in life: poem

I have been asked
How does it feel:
These thirty days so far
Trailing at my heel?
Like waves that softly
Reach along the sand, then
Softly still they steal away
again and sink to anonymity
Into the vast sea, these days
Who are you now, so new
Upon this path to authenticity?

My days move quickly
Like the wind,
The sand that shifts beneath it’s hand, like sand
The shifts within my soul are
Quiet colors in early show
The vested years in western health
Though drawn upon my heart
A map that took me far from home
Has led me home to clear the air
My journey here has just begun

Tiny Dolls

Allright, I am moving forward on the first of the 5 tiny dolls.

  • jointed arms and legs using Cotter pins
  • 24 g green garden wire (got a bunch at a garage sale)
  • Sculpy III clay (well condition by hand and wooden rooler pin specifically for that purpose-actually grew up with it. Mom used it for all her baking, now its mine)
  • Charms for the hands (and probably the feet too). I think I might have gotten the hand charms at the Beaded Nomad before they left Napa for Petaluma…their back now
  • The Beaded Nomad, 1238 First st., Napa, Ca.   707-254-8004   11am-6 pm T-Sat, 12-5 Sunday

Happy New Year!

I have neglected my post here too long! I admit to being distracted recently by Basket weaving. In October, I held a 6 day retreat at my home in Napa with two of my sisters. We exchanged creative skills in basketry, silk painting, spirit dolls, stone carving, poetry, and hand-made books. We sang, laughed, talked, meditated, hiked and shared. A day was set aside for the spa and wine tasting via limo. Evenings included chickflicks and silly Karaoke.

Then came Christmas! It was a wonderful sweet time.

Hello New Year.
